妇女与性别研究为农民工提供衣食

VALDOSTA -- vs上’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program is holding a yearlong food and clothing drive to benefit the migrant farm worker population in Echols County.

“As feminist activist scholars, we get involved in social justice issues such as immigration reform, fair wages, etc.,” Tracy Woodard Meyers, WGST program director, said. “We have been signing petitions and going to demonstrations to try and effect fair wages for this population and to protest the newly signed Georgia immigration legislation. In the meantime, we try and help meet the basic needs of the farm workers.”

For several years, members of the WGST program have been organizing food, clothing and blanket drives along with volunteering their time at the Migrant Farm Worker’s Clinic. They are currently in need of new or gently used clothing and blankets, especially small men’s clothing and shoes. They are also in need of food, specifically black beans, cooking oil, sugar, white rice and corn flour.

捐赠的物品可以带到卡斯韦尔大厅。 For more information or to get involved, contact Meyers at tmeyers@valdosta.edu.
