这是一个聋哑的世界

VALDOSTA -- 美高梅博彩's Access Office for Students with Disabilities and American Sign Language Club are hosting two sessions of Deaf, Deaf World Friday, April 22 in the University Center Magnolia Room from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The experience requires hearing participants to use nonverbal skills as they silently engage in everyday tasks. When people enter Deaf, Deaf World, they are not allowed to use their voices. Participants are given a brief introduction about basic signs, and then released to interact at mock banks, restaurants and hotels peppered throughout the Magnolia Room. After the transaction, each person is graded on his or her communication skills.

A panel discussion will be held during the last 30 minutes of the program to allow participants to discuss the enlightening experience with deaf and hard of hearing community members.

The Access Office hopes that people will take away a greater appreciation for people who live in a world where their first language is the minority.

该活动免费向公众开放。 For more information, contact Erin Salmon at (229) 245-2498 or epsalmon@valdosta.edu.
